Management Systems for Manufacturing and Engineering

Organisations pursue ISO certification for varied reasons but often overlook the fact that adding value to their own business benefits both new and existing customers too!
Being ISO certified can provide an immediate boost for an organisation's credibility and reputation, providing them with a competitive edge. For tenders, the need to demonstrate effective management systems is essential so certification is an obvious advantage. Joining supply chains often means certification becomes a necessity, demonstrating to customers and suppliers that you have a robust and sustainable business.
Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety apply to virtually all companies, with Information Security also becoming more prevalent. For manufacturers supplying into the aerospace or automotive industries the AS and TS standards also become more critical, often required by customers, whilst providing the opportunity to allow access to new markets.
ISO 9001 can be applied to any type and size of organisation, from small family-run businesses to the world's largest corporations and government institutions. It provides a structured yet flexible framework for a customer focused business management system that will drive business performance improvement.
ISO 14001 is an environmental management system that assists companies in planning, monitoring and continually improving their competitive position and environmental performance. Due to complexity of some aerospace products, hazardous materials are often used in the manufacture or incorporated into the product. Having a robust environmental management system can help ensure the effective control of these materials.
OHSAS 18001 is an international occupational health and safety management system. This standard enables companies to control health and safety risks, while at the same time promoting employee well-being and a safe work environment. Many aerospace OEMs have adopted OHSAS 18001 to help ensure the safety of their employees.
AS9100's key aspects include safety, airworthiness, product conformity and reliability in the aerospace industry. These quality requirements are crucial to aerospace OEMs, which maintain high levels of liability for their product.
AS9110 focuses on the control of repair schemes and maintenance plans, configuration management, and the skills and qualifications necessary to perform MRO tasks within the aerospace community.
AS9120 was developed for pass-through distributors of aerospace commodity items. This standard addresses chain of custody, traceability, control and availability of records.
ISO/TS 16949 (TS2) is a set of quality system requirements created specifically for the automotive industry. This technical specification encompasses ISO 9001, international automotive and customer-specific requirements. The goal of ISO/TS 16949 is to develop fundamental quality systems that will provide continual improvement, emphasize defect prevention, and reduce variation and waste in the supply chain.
Integration: All of the above standards are compatible and easily integrated with one another, which allows for audits to be conducted simultaneously in most cases. By combining registration to multiple standards, your company will see the added benefits that each registration offers.
